What is Position Control?
Position Control was implemented to more accurately report and maintain the University's budget. It is used to track the number of positions at UNLV as well as the funding source and budgeted amount for each position.
Position Control tracks all full and part-time positions within the University System including Professional, Classified, PTIs, LOAs, Graduate Assistants and Student Wages. Each position has a unique number to identify the type of position, the funding source, and the current fiscal year budget.
Since each number is unique, it is important that position numbers are used on all employment documents. If you are not sure what position number to use, contact the Budget Office at 895-1077 for assistance.
How do I find a position number?
FIMS is one way to locate a position number for a particular account. Using the Account Summary screen, locate the professional or classified FTE. If this figure is underlined, click the number of FTE and a screen will pop up showing the positions and related data including the position number.
In Position Control PTIs and LOAs do not have any FTE attached to them; therefore, if you do not know the position number contact the Budget Office at 895-1077.
The position number for PTIs is determined by college; therefore, all PTI employment documents for your college will have the same position number.
The position number for LOAs is determined by the FIMS roll-up; therefore, all LOA employment documents will have the same position number for each FIMS roll-up.
The position number for Student Wages is 88888 for all areas of campus.
The position number for Graduate Assistants is 2299 for all areas of campus.
